Nowhere at any point in time have people been able to survive off of working a few days per month unless they have a passive income, the cost of subsistance will naturally raise to whatever can be made from a full time job.
It depends on what level of comfort they want. If they want to live under a bridge, smoke crack, and eat rats, I'd imagine they probably wouldn't need to work much. If a non-crack head goes to a third world country and does web design over the internet for 1st world clients, they could probably get by working for a few hours per month and live like a king.
I know a guy that only works a few months out of the year, but he knows what he's doing, so he makes around 100k/year.
