The only thing I don't like about this video is that it's mostly one sided
And I don't cast any doubt about most of the claims made in it, to be clear
BUT
No mention is made about what "we" here already know... About .gov in the west...
"Oh look our only sins, our leaders included, are to have been greedy, naive, and hedonistic..." Yeah there's some of that, but the story doesn't just stop there
In the end, the narrative goes like "evil china vs the west, the west being a victim mostly guilty of its naivety and incompetence and hedonism, greed"
We all know there's much more than that, when it comes to western governments
And I'm not saying the CCP isn't a ruthless totalitarian entity aiming at achieving world domination ultimately, I'm just saying they don't have a monopoly on that ambition, they just happen to be more upfront about it
That being said I enjoyed the video, I'm not a tiktok user and it spared me a couple of hours of digging
The West has been doing this kind of AI shit since Carnivore in the 90s. The difference is that back in the day it was a read-only approach. They collected data and got a very detailed picture of what people were thinking and doing. So the media side would know what buttons to push and how much. In principle it's all the same as what we have today, the only difference is efficiency.
Once 9/11 gave them the ability to cast a broader net their predictions and evaluations became more sophisticated and more accurate.
But I really think it wasn't until social media apps on smart phones sent mainstream, especially with kids, that their propaganda mechanism turn from read-only to read-write. Now they collect so much information on everyone they can diagnose health problems before you know you have one and can predict your thoughts. Rather than relying on media to push your buttons they do it all in the same step and guide you down a certain path without you even knowing it.
What should scare you all and what scares me is not China, but the West. Because you almost never hear what we're doing here and that is not a benign fact. It's proof of just how sinister and sophisticated our version really is. And nobody cares, you tell people and they just laugh it off.
