I remember photos of the original Thalidomide catastrophe. Children with small flaps for arms. Then, 40 years later, I was working on a global investment presentation, and was horrified to see that Thalidomide was being reintroduced as a wonderful drug!! I wanted to run screaming through the hall to warn everyone. They assume that after a generation or two, people just forget.
