So, they're building a primitive shelter, with modern axes and saws and other modern tools. Kinda neat, but would have been better if they used period tools rather than modern tools.

Yeah, i guess for expediency. 10 days during day light hours using modern hand tools - i mean they had metal forging back then, so presumably they had ability to make and use hand saws/ axes/ hammers / mallets/ etc .... the only may have been the corkscrew drill, lol.
