I have a friend that got a falconry license in Texas. It’s about a five year process, and not 5 years of waiting for the paperwork. Almost every weekend, you’re out with your licensed trainer doing bird related shit. You have to catch a wild bird of prey and convince this bird that you’re a team, otherwise he’ll fly away and not come back the first time you take him out.

In all his years of falconry, he’s had two birds killed. I was with him both times, and I’ve only been out with him twice. So I’m bad luck, it seems. I don’t get invited anymore.

One red tail hawk was electrocuted on a power pole. The other was bitten while fighting a rattlesnake.

The guy releasing the bird, made a tv programme called 'Whack and Eat' (Nak og Æd), co hosted by a well known chef.

The premise was to hunt, kill, cook and eat some specific critter and if the hunt for the target was unsuccessful, they had to cook and eat "the alternative", which often was a animal not normally scores a high 'edibilityness-factor'..

I often wonder if the video here, was the birth of that idea?!
