I've heard of a dude getting a visit from the Feds for ordering a case of oil filters for his garage.

It's possible but prosecuted same as making a machine gun. The law is interpreted as having the parts needed to make is the same as making one. Not something to do carelessly on a whim.

In some states you can register as a weapons manufacturer and give it a serial number in the process. Better contact a lawyer before buying the parts.

I believe there is a steep fee to get a license to manufacture but laws have changed since I was young. I notice a lot of people purchasing legal suppressors with only some tax and a long wait for paperwork. Myself, I want to be far enough away from trouble that the bullet arrives well before the sound.

I’ve heard, not that I would ever do this, but that solvent traps are awfully handy. Also the oil filter “works” for about 4 rounds
