I read the comments and watched the video, I did a test, Took a QR code, put a couple 3/16 size dots on it with a permanent marker (after I tested the code for an initial read with my iphone camera) . It could not read the code after I put the dots on it. Good idea that I will probably test tomorrow.

Appreciate the impulse, but those codes are more resilient than that. A couple seconds with a small spray can would have done more good and taken less time. Or a big sticker over it. You want to cost them time and money to fix it or to just give up.

Stick a new QR code over it that goes to some other, more interesting site.

I can think of a few. More truthful AND more informative. The Holodomor, the "holo-hoax", the Kalergi plan, StuffBlackPeopleDontLike, etc...

QR Codes have built in error correction bits. The large squares are 'locating' sections. You will have to fill in a lot more dots than just those and depending on the format, quite a lot more dots.

As other poster said, it would be more effective to print out a large format qr code to cover this one.

I knew it couldn't be that simple.
