Where did the horses come from. Who taught them how to break and ride them effectively in combat?

Unrelated, but it was interesting to hear a historian talk about horses in that area being recognized as technologies that needed to be kept from the Comanches. Unfortunately the technology escaped and once one Comanche knew how to break horses the technology was gone forever.

Great point.

Its really cool to look at bronze age peoples reliefs about horseback riding. Back when chariots dominated, people used to ride horses above the back legs. Which without knowing better seems the widest and most stable point to sit. It took thousands of years for people to figure out the best way to ride a horse by trial and error. The first saddles and shoes must of been some highly guarded secrets.
