I think there are two phrases in the document (Papal Bull) that are being misconstrued.

--1

>extra ecclesiam nulla salus ("outside of the Church, there is no salvation)"

you must be a member of the church in order to be saved. not really controversial, IMHO.

--2

>Declaratio quod subesse Romano Pontifici est omni humanae creaturae de necessitate salutis ("A declaration that it is necessary for salvation that every human creature be subject to the Roman Pontiff")

I can see some objections to this statement, if interpreted incorrectly. But to say that all of humanity is owned by the vatican and their souls are traded on the stock market due to this statement is quite a stretch.

Furthermore, we declare, we proclaim, we define that it is absolutely necessary for salvation that every human creature be subject to the Roman Pontiff.

Hard to interpret that incorrectly.

All are subject to God, as He is our king and ruler. The pope is His representative here on Earth. The term "subject" in this context just means you are "under the jurisdiction of " the pope. It just means you need to follow moral law as defined by the Catholic Church.

You must remember that this document was written in the time of kings and queens, and uses slightly different language than we would use today.

You wanna be under the jurisdiction of the pope? Which God are they really talking about? Satan?

CAPITIS DIMINUTIO Means the diminishing of status through the use of “capitalization” In Roman law.
