Where was her parents?
Working / drunk / working / drunk / working / drunk / at NASCAR / drunk / working / etc.
One of my employees had a granddaughter that had a baby at 14. He wasn't a bad/evil person, just a shitty parent and his kids were shitty parents.
He took a week off to take care of a newborn great-grandchild because the
- 14 "mom" had to have a c-section and couldn't care for herself, much less a baby.
- 18 year old "dad" was in jail for statutory rape.
- The grand parents (on both sides) were all working hourly jobs and couldn't afford the time off.
Only available person in the family that was both available and not too drunk to take care of a newborn was a great-grandfather.
Just shitty parents repeating the cycle of being shitty at it. Trying to survive on shitty jobs and shitty beer.
And - like it not - once women got pushed into the work force, we lost our last social construct. When a mom's primary job was to care for her kids, this was much more rare. But, now that women are working as many hours as the men, then average people become terrible parents.
