Plastic recycling is not a scam. It's more expensive than new plastic, but that's not a scam. The scam is just throwing it away to leach pthalates into drinking water and leaving bits in the environment to find its way into the food chain.

I couldn't watch more than a few minutes of this neckbeard mouth-breather, but he's right that recycling is a scam. It actually consumes far more energy to go through the farce of recycling than to make new plastics from scratch, and it is harder on the environment. It's a farce because most recycled plastic is never recycled. If we just burned all the waste plastics, that would be the end of the problem. The planet would get more nourishing carbon dioxide, which it needs to be healthy, and the plastics wouldn't end up in the breathing holes of dolphins.

Well this is something. Came here to say this and see someone with my name has already said it.

From what I've seen it's only worth it to recycle aluminum.

In basic economic terms yes, but if you dump a load of plastic into the sea where it later breaks down, is eaten by fish, which are then eaten by you, then you might want to reconsider what 'worth it' really means to you personally.

It depends what your takeaway on this is, if you are using it to prop up some idea that recycling is a waste of time then that's a bit misguided and lazy.

We should be using this to pressure manufacturers to reduce the amount of plastic in their products, not just to sit there with your thumb up your bum and do nothing.

You might only recycle 9% in the USA, but Europe manages 30% with not much effort, meanwhile India does 60%

You can't call yourself conservatives if you don't bother to conserve anything

I'd like to see a reduction in the use of plastics to increase durability, not so much for recycling. If it's cost-effective, it'll take care of itself rather than being lectured to by SJW's.

If the reason to not do something is the messenger, then you might wait a long time for a capitalist to point out we are polluting the food chain?

There is no profit in saving ourselves from extinction by our own hand, zero, nada, fuck all

The problem comes when costs are diffused. Phthalates kill 100,000 people a year, but that's not priced into the cost of plastics. If all of the costs of plastics were Incorporated into its cost it may not be so attractive.
