Not quite. A shiny steel ball bearing heated in a furnace along with a rusty dull ball bearing will barely glow a bit red while the rusty one will be a bright orange.

Acrylic is extremely opaque to long wave IR. This is the reason carbon dioxide laser cutters can easily cut through acrylic. It absorbs the 10.6 micrometer wavelength output of the laser at nearly 100%. Clear acrylic is best since some of the pigments/dyes used in colored acrylic can absorb and re-radiate heat at a different wavelength not absorbed by acrylic. This should apply to acrylic fleece material and blankets made from acrylic fibers.

Should be able to. What you won't be able to hide from with this is sensor-fusion night vision that merges thermal and night vision images into one image.

I think you'd still be fine because night vision is just light amplification. Amplifying the light with infravision isn't going to see through material that blocks infrared light.

The space blanket doesn't block infrared, though, it just blocks heat. So the environment light (moonlight/stars, IR laser etc) would still reflect off of the blanket.

Well I had basically no adult supervision from age 15 and up.

When I was supposed to be in 11th grade some friends and I started skipping out of school early and hopping freight trains to Long Beach to see punk shows. Then a bit further, then we did a north south train hop to the Bay Area and then did the big one, we went to Nola from la and back again. Main issue was in Texas they have a checkpoint that’s along the southern border and the word from other train hoppers was they did serious security checks with things such as thermal scans. So we covered up with the space blankets like we were chipotle burritos and made it there and back.

That’s the whole story.
