Glass is another good one. It's almost completely opaque to infrared, so you can see them but they can't see you.

Greenhouses work mostly by trapping the warm air.
It doesn't need to be larger than your body, nor thick. Something like a riot shield that law enforcement uses would be effective, but you can't fold one of those up and tuck it into a small bag.

But glass can itself radiate quite strongly in the infrared if it becomes as warm as the object it's supposed to hide.

Not quite. A shiny steel ball bearing heated in a furnace along with a rusty dull ball bearing will barely glow a bit red while the rusty one will be a bright orange.
