those domesticated chickens associate the human with large sacks of poured cracked ground corn with calcium powder. They are ravenously hungry if it has not rained for 3 days or more. Starving hunger is a great motivator to run toward the imminent food supply. You would chase after him too.
Chickens (hens) for egg laying get unlimited food though. Unlimited. That way a modern egg layer can lay 310 eggs a year!
