Regardless of what any mechanical device is designed to do, the one thing that all of them can be counted on to do eventually is fail. All of them. No exceptions. The M1911A1 pistol has no less than three positive safeties: A manual safety, the grip safety and a half-cock notch for the sear to drop into if it should drop out of the sear notch on the hammer without the trigger pulled to the rear. But even knowing all of that, I still don't put my finger on and/or pull on the trigger when the manual safety is still clearly engaged. Why not? Because all it takes is one time... You just don't tempt fate like that. "There is just no hope for a man when the angels choose to piss in the touch-hole of his firelock."

This guy should not be a high rise window salesman.
