Do not talk to the police, FFS. Ask for your lawyer and shut up. No, really.
Something very similar to this happened me and my solicitor actually advised me to speak to them. Said he usually tells people to just say ‘no comment’ when making a statement but he said it was quite clear I was innocent and so I should tell them what happened. Depends on the circumstances I guess, but that statement kept me out of court I believe.
True, talk to the police only on advice from your lawyer.
Isn't always the case. I faced 30 years for something I didn't do when I was younger. I even had witnesses. I spoke to the police with full honesty and still sat in jail for 3 months because I couldn't afford the bond. Before going before the judge my attorney offered me their plea bargain for 10 years. I refused because I was innocent. Go before the judge 10 minutes later and all charges were dropped by the state. All this from some dumb pissed off cunt of an ex. I had no record then or now other than speeding tickets.
Edit: fixed typo
Agreed.
