Maybe some one could have checked the route and coordinated with railroad authorities. Main responsibility as always though rests with lowest paid guy, the driver. As a structural welder I knew this and took this idea to heart in a religious way. I've outright refused to perform weds in a substandard way. I've refused to use scaffolding that was unsafe unless I was allowed to or able to remedy the situation, refused to weld seams that were incorrect and refused to use lift equipment that had broken controls, etc. Never been fired for this. Only times I've been fired is going along with bullshit orders.
If driver had refused to make an unsafe crossing and been fired at very least the equipment would be spared. Safety really is number one priority.
lowest paid is the pilot car drivers. theirs even on in the back stealing the back tire but it will be the fault of the trucker im sure.
