One thing I loved about the Sopranos was not only did they make fun of everyone, they portrayed pretty much every character - criminal or civilian - as a dickhead one way or the other. There were only a handful of people like Melfi post-season 3 who actually had morals and stood up for them. Definitely wouldn't fly today. They'd make a designated hate sink character in order to shovel in all of the transgressive dialogue.
