The main purpose of firearms is to act as a last check against tyranny. Obviously self defense is another main purpose. Sporting and hunting are very much secondary.

Logically: you just undid your entire argument, with that statement. If you're genuine, than you know what I'm getting at. God told you to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, but he also told you to never bear false witness, and to know which lines to never cross. Even Jesus went all Indiana Jones on some folks who were trying to blaspheme his father. Some acts are too egregious to simply ignore. After a certain point: complacency becomes complicity.

No, I definitely agree with you. I've seen enough posts from Aussies refuting that point. The unfortunate part is that you have firearms because the government has found it in their hearts to allow it. They could decide tomorrow to disallow it (admittedly I don't know anything about how your political system functions, but thats how Americans view it) because of another "mass shooting." In America that's not quite the case, even if the Democrats (communists) fervently wish otherwise.
