And this right here is the problem. Many of us in the Millennial age range were given this impression of a lot of blue collar work and the trades.
Those truckers earn a comfortable $60k a year if they work full time and pull in some OT.
I just said in a comment elsewhere that mechanics are rebuilding the older rigs that have been left parked in places for a decade plus. That can cost $10k-$40k depending on needed parts and what you can find used. But you can break even in one full time year before doing the write offs.
Walmart is hiring 87k to start in some markets. Sign-on bonuses, benefits on day one (fully paid in some cases), safety bonuses, etc.etc.
