The top UFC champions are overwhelmingly high-level wrestlers.
UFC is a duel with a referee, rules, and a safe environment
I'm not saying those guys aren't effective in a street fight, I'm saying going to the ground should be the last resort, for obvious reasons
100% agree. It’s a good demonstration of what works and doesn’t work against trained opponents, but BJJ isn’t enough. Having that combined training of standing and grappling will give you the best chances.
Absolutely, there's a before and after royce gracie effect, for a start, historically speaking, when it comes to everything MMA/Combat libre
Those who were clueless about bjj/gjj got fucked over by it, and today having only a bjj/gjj isn't enough, at pro level, you need both a solid stand up and "par terre" game
That being said, tank abott, who was a UFC pioneer, had a pretty good mix of skills going for him on top of his out of the ordinary physical condition. Nothing fancy, not exactly your archetypal gym bro to say the least lol, but pretty efficient
Living here in western Europe I'd say you should not only avoid going to the ground, but avoid any conflict with multiple opponents. Literally all the shit skins you'll encounter are armed at least with a knife and they never fight one-on-one. What I like about BJJ is that it's relatively low-risk compared to the other full contact martial arts, you don't need the same level of athleticism as in MMA and is still effective in certain situations. Great sport also for woman, since you can't rape a girl with BJJ skill unless you knock her out.
I agree, unfortunately you rarely get to choose whether you have to fight or not, just as you don't get to choose against how many
In my experience, a jab is best suited to fend off a first attack. Heck, you can handle one or more adversaries with almost just that. While being at ease with boxing in general and the jab in particular, adding a blade to it renders it as one of the most if not the most devastating alternative to handguns
A particularly efficient and vastly underrated mix is boxing + judo
That being said, there will be a time when .gov pretends to pay the police while cops pretend to do their job. It's coming, it's almost a mathematical certainty at this point.
