I would highly doubt that snake had any intention of attacking the fawn. It is much too big to be prey, and rat snakes are not venomous, so they don't strike and wait for their prey to die. Maybe curiosity, nothing more. Same for the cat. The snake isn't going to waste energy on prey it can't eat.
