I once took a tin can and piece of metallic flexible exhaust duct, was able to adapt down to garden hose from tailpipe. Not too much backpressure on system as no change in idle speed/sound. Gassed them at night (while sleeping) for about 15 mins, problem solved. Sure this would work with lawnmower if some you did not want to drive.
