"We are being spied on by our government"

I think this phrase has become the official unofficial tag line for the Internet Age. The fact that it passes through most people's heads without illiciting any response just shows how hopelessly stupid and damned the American people are. Most people think there's an army of government agents "watching" everything we do. As creepy as that is they cannot summon the intelligence and imagination necessary to see the forest through the trees.

The government spies on the National Lottery. But the fact that they win the lottery EVERY time is just a happy coincidence on their part.

The government spies on Corp A. But the fact that they play the stock market for Corp A perfectly and seem to perfectly predict rising or falling stock value is just pure coincidence.

The whole point of spying is to gain information. You do not invest the resources on this scale simply to watch people jerk off, read text messages or to predict the next terrorist attack... ESPECIALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when you're actually proven to be bad at stopping terrorist attacks. So why would they go through all this effort? Its because they're using the information they collect for something other than stopping terrorist attacks.
