While we can argue points for and against this group and the way it operates, I'd say it's good to have a group that helps fellow brothers recover from addiction.

The alcohol industry is clever and successfully manages to sell people their sense of identity. Cycle through enough posts and some chode wagon is going to brag about his whiskey affinity. Then there's the craft-beer crap which I'm sure many of us can be agreement in: Shit makes you fat and pumps you full of estrogen. The fat soyboy sitting around in his tiny apartment (The one with the exposed brick) smoking his "Random_Name" marihuana strain and pounding back brewskis probably aint doing much else for the world.

IMOHO, the biggest issue is that people don't know there are many other organizations who actually help. They also provide a support structure. Some are nationwide. Some are local. Good organizations do exist. AA simply isn't one of them.

I'd go to meetings even if I were still drinking

It can help some, go in there young enough and you'll think fuck that I'm not turning into them. I was court ordered for some dumb shit, wasn't a druggie or a drunk but did some criminal mischief while drunk ended going through drug court. I was so out of place and everyone knew it. But I did learn from it. Never really partied as hard since, actually sober most of the time. Like 8 months now still have booze just no interest

do people really think just going to AA will magically end your drinking?
