Ah.. that floppotron... The first time I seen that thing was maybe 10-15 years ago, and just had to try it out myself. This was around the time I had just picked up embedded programming as a hobby, barely made it out of blinking an led.

The micro was either an Atmel ATMEGA168 or 328. I think I set up a hardware timer and counted 16th notes with it, and just played through an array of DAC values. I remember sitting there with a keyboard, micro, and floppy drive, tuning those values to notes. Had 3 drives, two of the same brand. The odd brand was off-key compared to the same brand ones, but it was close enough.

Hand-coded in the first 4 or 5 verses of Canon in D, and quit. Just wasn't that experienced yet to make anything truly cool.

Nice! There are a whole ton of projects like that for me as well. I have an idea about what I want to make but don't know how much work is involved.

Then I start to fiddle and start to understand how much time it will involved and just go "hard pass".

Heh!

This guy transposed the voice arrangement to the scanner servos ... amazing.
