It was probably a set up for a smear campaign. The ponzi schemer (aka CIA patsy) invited snowden to speak and probably pays him or compensates him somehow. Then mr. Ponzi is arrested/convicted/etc at a later date when the CIA tips off another agency. Now the CIA tells their mouthpieces NY Times/WAPO/Glamour to run stories on Snowden taking money from a convicted criminal.
