The UK has an anthrax island as well. It's called Gruinard Island and was part of Operation Vegetarian during WW2. Britain was planning on dropping anthrax infected linseed cakes over cattle farms in Germany so the cows would eat them, contracting anthrax. Many cows would die, but many others would be eaten with the people who ate the cows also dying from anthrax. The resulting food shortage would kill even more Germans. All at the orders of Winston Churchill himself. Anyway, they tested OV on Gruinard Island and it was such a disastrously idiotic idea that anthrax made it to the mainland and the island was quarantined until the 1980's.
