Merkel was raised in the GDR. Doesn't really matter, it's the German media that decides who gets the votes and what decisions are expected. The media was installed after WW II to "make sure they don't elect a Hitler again", Radio Free Europe style propaganda and full Mockingbird controlled. That never changed.
