Wool is surprisingly underused, or even known about when it comes to cold weather. A real lifesaver if you're a women and get wet.

wool is a fire retardent....not like synthetics that melt when to close to a heat source.

Wool is the best and it can save your life in hypothermic weather conditions. I always have a wool base layer and button-down shirt in my truck in the winter. I just got a couple new pairs of knee-high Lorpen heavy winter socks. They're so comfortable.

Makes me want to get a tweed suit to prance around town in. Preferable in an awful colour, like mauve.
