no reason to get close except to remove the victims from danger.
Opening fire from 10 yards or so would be more than sufficient.
First round in the air, will get the goon off the lady and send them scrambling. Which clears the line of fire as they do.
Then its just clean up and getting the lady some medical, and telling the kid its ok.
