.50 BMG is like 3,000 fps at the muzzle plus or minus. With those big bullets that's a LOT of energy so not much chance for expansion in a little monkey body. This isn't a video game so a bullet isn't going to create a big red mist or gib the monkey. The aim is to kill it instantly by obliterating the heart and lungs.
