Though, I honestly don't believe they are self-aware enough to think they need re-branding.
Seems to me they believe it's the rest of the country that needs to change.
Gervais is pretty deeply involved with that crowd. It seems more likely it's a scheme than a Hollywood lifer suddenly had an awakening.
Even writers for the daily stormer seem to have fallen for it, cheering the Epstein joke becoming mainstream because of this event. (It appears Anglin is on vacation or something so the other writers are filling in.)
I like Fuentes' recent take better: Epstein has been boiled down to a catchphrase along the lines of 'Bush did 9-11.' The mainstream now sees an edgy joke where there should be seriousness and cause for actual outrage. And nothing illustrates that better than the use of it at a Hollywood awards show.
