One thing that was cool with flash for the audio and video is that it had its own proprietary format, meaning that you didn't have to worry too much about craps like blanks of varying lengths at the begining of mp3s and shit for instance

The only way I know of to still build "in flash" in a decent way without "flash" is haxe, problem is that it can't do everything it does in flash in other platforms such as html5 or c++
And I don't know how the nodejs/socket.io interface flies with haxe, I know it's there but idk
