No, they're just diagnosed with dwarfism, Down's, and all kind of oddball genetic diseases that never really show up in the rest of the populace because we're nowhere near as insular as they are.
They trade modern diseases for small population diseases. Pick your poison.
Last year at Johnstown Swappers Day (big flea market NE of Columbus over Labor Day) there was a whole group of dwarves (they show up a lot,) and years past there have been plenty of mentally unable Amish running around. It's not uncommon to pick up entire families and trade them with other states to try and diversify the population - a friend used to do that, and the people who did his roof got moved like that.
You simply don't see them because they don't present themselves to the general public at Þe Oldde Cheeſe Shoppe. Don't be fooled by the blueshirt jews, they aren't your friend and it's a hard life full of pain.
