Why would other people maladies drive you insane? Is your mind so weak that you can not differentiate what happens to other people vs what happens to you?
Um, I doubt that's what he means. I'm not sure how you extrapolated that context out of what he said unless you are projecting your weakness into him.
He doesn't have to have any empathy for people to be driven mad by them. Knowing you're surrounded by idiots is one thing.
Having to listen to them cough, hack, sneeze, and complain because you're surrounded by people with weak minds making poor choices is a grating reminder of the hell the we live in now.

Well, that's sounding pretty smart! Some people are just stuck in the grind and it's too late for them to pivot away from idiots, or maybe some people just realized how stupid everyone is when they got the vaxx and are trying to find other work now. Whatever the case may be, there's reasons people accidentally work around a bunch of sheep.
I just don't like being around sick people. Knowing they're coughing on shit I touch while I shop or use public transport, sharing the space in an elevator or an air-conditioned room, sitting behind me and coughing into my neck, handing me my drink from behind the bar, etc. I've never had to be so tight on my personal health to counter the ill-health of others. It's like I'm working over-time on myself because these fucks are already dead.
