It's important to note that this contamination is primarily in the production process batches. The batches that they used for the initial testing, what little of it they did, and presumably what was given to pfizer employees and VIPs not deemed important enough to get a saline shot was created using an entirely different process. Effectively, the product that was shipped to the masses was entirely untested in the sense that the actual product, created using the production process, was never tested.
