Lymphocytic aggregates in the inter-ventricular septum with associated myocardiocyte destruction. This means:

Collections of white blood cells in the heart in between the left and right ventriculars and associated heart cell destruction.

The evidence shows the lymphocyte collections (and associated macrophages) build up and the collections cause abnormal electrical signals in the heart. These abnormal signals can also cause ventricular fibrillation which quickly leads to death if not given immediate medial intervention. I.e. Died Suddenly Syndrome

Key is that even "mild" myocarditis, with very isolated regions of damage, may be harboring these lymphocyte collections and macrophages that can lead to ventricular fibrillation. So the myocarditis can be rightfully characterized as mild, but the effect is anything but mild for some unfortunate ones.
