He doesn't want to admit, even to himself, that he made a bad mistake and may have killed himself. He terrified that he may suddenly just drop dead, like the athletes he sees dying on sports fields.

Yep. It’s still taboo with some of my vaxed/ boosted family members to even come close to bringing up the shit that is happening right in front of their stupid faces. They really are scared shitless and are NOT going to admit they’re suckers and have been had.
