This brings to my mind something similar that I read/heard a ways back that stuck with me, and is also something that these people would do well to think about, is that the difference between "remorse" and "repentance" taking action to change and bring restitution. But, they are neither of these things; they are offering up impatient and facetious overtures as if the matter is really of no significance anymore and our response is moot; that they acknowledge mistakes might have been made is enough for them. They view us as "less than" and are more bothered by the inconvenience of needing to demonstrate some measure of humility to us than they are about what they have done and who they became.
