1000 deaths from the deadliest disease known to man that's going to kill us all, in a sample size of 50M is, as you say, not significant.

I think that was per 100K? so 153K deaths in the UK for covid, vs 30K for flu

nobody is saying that it's going to kill us all, just that if something is very infectious then it could have potentially affected everyone globally within a few months if we had done nothing. That's the R0 value they mentioned at the start of this, 1.3 for flu, up to 6 for covid

Like most old people go get a flu jab because they don't want to die from an air filled lung, same for dying of covid. It doesn't matter what the risk is, or the death numbers, people just want to die of something else

I was using your example, but the numbers predicted at the beginning of this mess were quite high. They came from some UK "Scientist" who had been wrong and discredited on every other account, but the powers that be ran with the example.

Old people are fucking stupid. I used to look up to my parents as someone who could see through the bullshit - if I'd told them I was sick when i was a kid but there wasn't any symptoms they would have told me to get my ass out of bed and go to school. Now? My father is so cowed that he almost cried to me "I don't want to die!" when I told him you're taking a risk getting this third shot, especially with known heart problems and cancer.

Yeah, I thought you were smarter than that. I guess I was wrong.

I don't care what people do, I care that the stats they are using to make that decision, make sense

I keep seeing the same holes in the anti vax arguments that they never bother to counter, they just go straight to 'sheeple' and repost the same thing the next day...

If people making the best decision was their only concern then they would be looking at all the stats and then listing the actual risks for each one, rather than go on about some random footballer dying of myocarditis. I think this is more about getting people to agree with them
