I made a mistake and flew on United using one of those websites that are supposed to give you the lowest fare (basically the seats next to the back toilet) . Only after trying to check in I discovered I had a 'economy basic' no carry-on ticket which means I was limited to take a 'personal item' measuring no more than 9X 10X 17 (good luck finding something that size to carry luggage), and had to check (pay) luggage $30 with any second bag $40. They print in big the 'no carry-on ' on your ticket so you can't get away with it. I found a 9x10x17 bag for 'personal item' and lived out of that bag for 10 days on a trip and NEVER AGAIN want to fly the frightening skies of United. I need my one carry-on and don't want to wait for baggage carousel when I travel.
