I disabled all the other DPI choices on my mouse since there is only one setting that works best for me. I don't like the pointer to fly across the screen from a nanometer of mouse travel nor do I like to have to pick up the mouse to buy real estate to move just a few more pixels. One setting. All the rest is gamer marketing wank.

It's for niche use cases. E.g. ludicrous speed is really nice for a wireless mouse when casting to your 4K tv.

OSs have settings for the mouse speed too - some even more ludicrous than the hardware - and god help you if you select an extreme setting, you gotta get that cursor back there to fix it!
