So what is a conservative definition of a pandemic? I would say a disease doesn't have to be deadly to cause a pandemic. It just have to be new and spread across boarders. It's not like we have to care about every pandemic. Just if we want. Should we care about Covid? I don't know. Is there a new disease? Yes. Have you heard of the loss of smell/taste? How deadly is Covid? I'm not sure. Are there re-categorized and redistributed deaths? Surly. Is Covid harmless? It isn't very deadly but it can make people severely sick. We can see and predict where hospitals need more ICU beds than usual.
I understand if people think the measurements against Covid are not reasonable or appropriate but if people think Covid is a hoax they are just dump.
Loss of smell and taste is a known symptom that was around and had many explanations before “Covid.” The medical term is anosmia and dysgeusia and both had their own pages on health websites listing symptoms before 2019. Now it’s just a subjective symptom people can claim but no one can test for or prove. It is a way for the average person to join in on the hoax by convincing people they had or have “Covid.”
It’s mostly women who claim loss of taste and smell because they are more hypochondriac and attention-seeking by nature. I have seen people come to the ER claiming loss of smell/taste and then have a negative Covid test.
So which is it…. Are the tests not accurate or are people full of shit? Unfortunately, both are true.
I have not meant that loss of smell and taste is new. But I now heard it many times. I heard it mostly from men and I don't think they are attention-seeking. They are just annoyed about not to be able to enjoy food.
Are people full of shit? Sure. Are the tests as accurate as they say? I don't think so. But they are accurate enough to let us predict about how many people will get severely sick.
What do you think about the ICU bed usage? Do you think they also just do it for attention?
ICU is an area in a hospital with more beds. If more beds are needed, more patients are put in ICU rooms or other ad hoc, overflow areas. It doesn’t mean everyone in ICU is fighting for their lives on a ventilator.
Hospitals are busy now, for reasons I don’t claim to know entirely but it’s also seasonal and hospitals are designed to be perpetually busy because they’re understaffed. The minute they’re not busy, people get sent home.
However hospitals were not busy during February-May 2020 during the “pandemic,” in fact they were largely ghost towns.
