The British monarchy can legally choose to wield total power and control over its people. One day they'll have a monarch that chooses to exercise that power, and the Brits will regret not overthrowing the monarchy when they had the chance.

The french did overthrow the monarchy, the US never had one, and yet look at where they're at
The point is that legally they only have rights if the king or queen says they do. The governments of constitutional republics at least have those rights protected by a constitution.
Yes, they routinely ignore them anyhow, but it's more solid than the whims of a 70 year divorcee.
