Why would you be charged with "assault"? Once you've made the decision to do the needful, just be prepared to follow through on it all the way. The job isn't finished until after the cleanup is done. Plan and prepare accordingly. Don't you have shovels in the UK?

The fact that the government has decided to ignore this doesn't change it. There was a time in England when no Englishman would think of leaving the house unarmed, and the term "castle doctrine" originates in English common law which held that every man's home was his castle.
