The vaccines killed and crippled a lot of people.
At first, the vaccines went to the elderly. Elderly people are already dying somewhat, so it's harder to notice an increase in deaths. They are also somewhat segregated in their own communities away from the rest of the population.
The driver shortages developed right about the same time as they started vaccinating the age groups of people who were still working. Now there's worker shortages in every industry.
Then they also have company mandated vaccinations for workers - so a lot of the surviving workers quit when the companies were already losing workers from the vaccine damage.
Combine those two elements and you have a genuine labor crisis.
