That is a remarkable weapon they used, that wasn't just some ordinary bomb, that was an enormous explosion and I find it hard to believe one MLRS vehicle is worth the expense of whatever that was they used.

IMO that was a demonstration

Strong agree. That was a demonstration on a couple levels.

Possible thermobaric weapon. I've seen reports of the Russians deploying these a few times already- these weapons are fucking nasty.

This might be a rumor, but when I was serving, it was said that if you were just outside the blast radius of a thermobaric weapon, even if you didn't catch any shrapnel, a vacuum is created by the reaction the fuel in the bomb is undergoing. This vacuum can supposedly be strong enough to instantly pull a man's organs out through his mouth. That's what I heard, at least.

Every time one of these weapons is used, it's like a historical event. Almost like nukes. Any time a thermobaric rocket or missile or shell is deployed in anger, it's recorded. Russians used them the most, of course. I suspect these weapons are fantastic for urban or mountainous/cavernous terrain- the vacuum created can slurp the air out of buildings and tunnels, causing structural damage and discomfort/confusion/injury to any fighters inside.

So did you copy paste me this from CNN? This is propaganda. A large portion of explosives used since the Vietnam era have been thermobaric, but faggots throw the term around like it’s some new doomsday device. So every time we dropped a daisy cutter on camel fuckers it was a historical event? How the fuck can you say Russians used them the most when 100% of the armed conflicts in the last 25 years have been USA and not RU. Really this is the media trying to make us think RU is doing something super terrible.

Edit added some more. Historical event shoulder launched thermo rockets. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mk_153_Shoulder-Launched_Multipurpose_Assault_Weapon

Hellfires missiles are or can be thermobaric https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Thermobaric_weapons

No, I made it very clear that these were rumors I'd heard while serving. "That's what I heard, at least", leaving the door open for me to be corrected by a lovely person like yourself!
