On June 19, a three-judge panel of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in U.S. v. Comeaux that suppressors, also called silencers, are “arms” that are, therefore, protected by the Second Amendment. The ruling overturned a lower court decision that determined that silencers were “dangerous and unusual weapons” that are outside the purview of the Second Amendment.
