Kamala Harris could be forced to pay for her own security detail once and for all if her GOP political opponent, Steve Hilton, wins the gubernatorial race.

It was revealed on Tuesday that the failed presidential candidate was using the California Highway Patrol to escort her through her book tour.

The news sparked outrage, and it wasn’t the first time.

In September 2025, at least a dozen LAPD officers were reassigned from crime-suppression work to Harris’s security detail after President Trump terminated her Secret Service protection.

The move enraged the board of directors of the LA Police Protective League.

“Pulling police officers from protecting everyday Angelenos to protect a failed presidential candidate who also happens to be a multi-millionaire, with multiple homes and who can easily afford to pay for her own security, is nuts,” the board released in a statement at the time.

I missed that. But seriously six months is long enough. How much operational knowledge could she have that is actionable even a month after leaving office?

As Cactus Jack Garner noted, the office of Vice President "is not worth a bucket of warm spit." Certainly not worth six months of Secret Service protection after leaving office.
