They think it's all free stuff when in reality it's being given what the state deems necessary for you to have and shooting you if you're not loyal enough.
I remember something from years back - an interview with a leftist female who was excited about a socialist utopia. She commented something like she'd 'spend the days working on her farm' to contribute to the cause. The interviewer responded with, 'Your farm? it won't be your farm.'
She didn't understand that she wouldn't have the choice of how and where to contribute.
Yep. The Commissar would assign you a position based on where you born. Perhaps if you're really lucky you'll be able to show you have some intellectual ability and be allowed to move to one of the cities to work in research or something.
Perhaps you'll have been born in the mountains. You'll be lucky enough to work in one of the metal mines. Metals are important to the party, you'll have access to a range of goods your fellow comrades can only dream of. Things like tinned peaches from the south or a bit of chocolate advent calendar at Christmas!
